No Petrol Price Has Not Been Slashed By Rs78 In Pakistan Latest Update

ISLAMABAD – Petrol prices are heading higher once again in Pakistan, while diesel is moving in the opposite direction amid drastic changes in global oil market.

The latest revision pushes the price of petrol to Rs394.83 per litre from Rs393.64. The price of high-speed diesel (HSD), meanwhile, will fall from Rs397.76 to Rs395.85 per litre.

Petrol Price Rises Again To Rs394 83 Diesel Gets Rs1 91 Cut For Oct 7

The adjustment comes barely a day after the previous revision, highlighting the unusually rapid pace at which Pakistan’s fuel prices are being changed amid continuing volatility in international energy markets. The government had increased petrol by Rs0.88 per litre and reduced HSD by Rs1.88 per litre for October 6.

The latest figures are part of the petroleum pricing mechanism administered through OGRA and the Petroleum Division. OGRA’s official price portal records the latest October 6 price publication.

The latest increase takes petrol to just Rs5.17 below the Rs400-per-litre mark, adding fresh pressure on motorists at a time when transportation costs are already a major concern for households and businesses. The move also extends petrol’s recent upward momentum. On October 1, petrol was priced at Rs387.40 per litre. By October 6, it had climbed to Rs393.64, representing an increase of Rs6.24 per litre in just five days.

With the latest Rs1.19 increase included, petrol will have risen by Rs7.43 per litre from its October 1 level. The strongest increase during the recent period came on October 2, when petrol jumped by Rs3.26 per litre, followed by another Rs2.10 increase on October 3 and a further Rs0.88 increase on October 6.

While petrol prices have been moving upward, diesel has followed a distinctly different path. Diesel stood at Rs418.96 per litre on September 23. By October 6, it had fallen to Rs397.76, a decline of Rs21.20 per litre over the period. With another Rs1.91 cut coming into effect on October 7, diesel will have dropped by Rs23.11 per litre in less than two weeks from its September 23 level.

Sep 24 390.12 -1.93 414.75
Sep 23 392.05 -1.70 418.96

The data shows a clear divergence: petrol has gained ground since the beginning of October, while diesel has continued to retreat.

According to the available price history, petrol moved from Rs387.40 on October 1 to Rs393.64 on October 6, while HSD declined from Rs400.35 to Rs397.76 over the same period.

For ordinary motorists, the petrol increase means higher fuel bills for daily commuting and private transportation. The impact may appear small on a per-litre basis, but repeated increases can quickly add to monthly household expenses. The diesel reduction could have a broader economic effect because HSD is extensively used in goods transportation, agriculture and commercial operations.

Lower diesel prices can potentially reduce fuel expenses for truckers and other transport operators, although the eventual impact on freight rates, food prices and other consumer costs will depend on how much of the saving is passed through to businesses and consumers.

The domestic changes are taking place against a volatile international oil backdrop. International crude prices recently declined by almost 2%, with easing concerns over supply disruptions and increased crude exports from the Middle East weighing on the market. An agreement by the G7 countries to release emergency stocks of crude oil and diesel also contributed to downward pressure on prices.

Brent crude futures fell $1.84, or 1.8%, to $98.48 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) dropped $1.42, or 1.6%, to $88.01 per barrel. Brent was heading toward its lowest closing level since September 8, while WTI was on course for its weakest close since August 31.
