OKARA – A University of Okara student, Ammar, passed away during treatment after being critically injured in a bus accident on the National Highway outside the university.
Four students were injured in the accident, which occurred when the students were standing on the road and attempting to stop a bus when a speeding bus tried to pass through, resulting in the accident.

The injured students were shifted to a hospital for medical treatment. Ammar later succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment. The incident caused concern among students and the university community, with questions likely to be raised over road safety and the circumstances that led to the accident.
Punjab continues to face serious road safety crisis in 2026, with Rescue 1122 recording tens of thousands of traffic accidents every month. The province reported 36,025 crashes in January, 37,938 in February, 43,160 in May and 41,472 in September, resulting in hundreds of deaths and thousands of serious injuries.
Lahore remained a major accident hotspot, while bikes accounted for around 70percent of crashes. Rescue 1122’s broader figures show average of approximately 1,352 road crashes and 14 deaths every day across Punjab, showing persistent concerns over speeding, unsafe driving, motorcycle safety and traffic enforcement, with recent fatal incidents further underscoring the growing road safety challenge in the region.
