Gold remains below year’s record levels
Despite Wednesday’s recovery, gold prices remain well below the extraordinary levels recorded earlier in 2026. Gold staged a powerful rally at the beginning of the year, crossing Rs550,000 per tola and reaching approximately Rs551,662 on January 28. Another published market benchmark recorded an even higher peak of Rs616,790 per tola on February 6.
The market subsequently went through several sharp swings. Gold prices rose steadily during the first half of the year, pulled back in July, climbed strongly again in August and then lost some momentum in September.
The average gold price during September has remained around Rs447,000 to Rs448,000 per tola. In the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Sarafa series, the September average through the available data was approximately Rs448,847.
The biggest recent move came on September 28, when gold plunged Rs12,800 per tola. The price of 10 grams also fell by Rs10,973 that day. A further Rs800 decline on September 29 extended the correction before Wednesday’s recovery.
