Umar Ahsan Khan has been elected President of the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI) for the 2026-28 term.
The election results were announced at the Chamber’s Extra-Ordinary General Meeting held on Tuesday.
Ahmed Zahid Zaheer, Country Chairman and General Manager of Chevron Pakistan Lubricants (Private) Limited, was elected Senior Vice President, while Dr Syed Amir Ali, President and CEO of Meezan Bank Limited, was elected Vice President.
Umar Ahsan Khan succeeds Yousaf Hussain, who served as OICCI president from 2024 to 2026.
Speaking at the occasion, outgoing President Yousaf Hussain welcomed progress towards economic stability but stressed that stabilisation alone was insufficient. He called for greater focus on investment, exports, productivity and employment to convert economic gains into sustainable growth.
Umar Ahsan Khan said the Chamber would continue to pursue constructive and evidence-based advocacy while working with the government and other stakeholders to develop practical solutions.
He pointed out that foreign direct investment declined 34% to $1.65 billion during the last financial year, saying that while macroeconomic stability could attract investor interest, a broader and more conducive investment environment was crucial for securing capital commitments.
During its 2026-28 term, the new Managing Committee will strengthen engagement with the government, regulators and international institutions. It will also expand OICCI’s data-driven research and continue initiatives focused on climate, diversity and inclusion, technology and artificial intelligence.
