ISLAMABAD – Senior-level postings and transfers reported within Pakistan Army as Maj Gen Adil Warraich appointed Director General Military Intelligence (DGMI). The reshuffle also includes key changes across field formations and security commands.
The shake-up reaches from General Headquarters (GHQ) and Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) to major infantry formations, the Frontier Corps in Balochistan and the Pakistan Coast Guards.

Major General Adil Iftikhar Warriach, has reportedly been appointed Director General Military Intelligence (DG MI), replacing Major General Wajid Aziz.
Warriach, a 92nd Pakistan Military Academy Long Course officer from the 34 Azad Kashmir Regiment, was serving as GOC 7 Infantry Division in Miranshah. His move places him at the head of one of the Army’s principal military-intelligence organisations, responsible for intelligence and counter-intelligence functions.
ISI Postings
Major General Sajid Mehmood, promoted in July 2026 from the 95th PMA Long Course and 32 Punjab Regiment, has been assigned as Director General Z at ISI.
Major General Muhammad Shamriaz Khan, an artillery officer from the 90th PMA Long Course and currently serving as Director General Pakistan Rangers Sindh, has been moved to the position of Director General S at ISI.
Major General Jawwad Riaz, also from the 90th PMA Long Course and the 11 Baloch Regiment, is being transferred from the Pakistan Coast Guards to become Director General P at ISI.
The identities and functions associated with the lettered ISI directorates are not all publicly documented in official detail. A claim in the source material alleges that the DG S position is involved in activities concerning India in coordination with another ISI directorate; that allegation could not be independently verified from the official material reviewed for this report.
Battlefields, Corps and Divisions New Commanders
The reshuffle extends deep into the Army’s field structure.
Major General Khurram Shabir has been appointed GOC 17 Infantry Division under 1 Corps at Kharian, replacing Major General Azhar Yasin.
The move comes shortly after Shabir’s reported stint in the intelligence establishment. A 92nd PMA Long Course officer from the 35 Azad Kashmir Regiment, he had served as Commandant Mujahid Regiment Centre, Bhimber, and was also recently associated with the Counter-Terrorism Directorate at ISI.
Another major field change puts Major General Zill-e-Husnain in command of 15 Infantry Division.
Zill-e-Husnain, from the 93rd PMA Long Course and 14 Field Regiment, replaces Major General Sajid Amin Awan. His appointment is notable because the 15 Infantry Division has recently continued to be commanded by officers with an artillery background.
Major General Waqas Qureshi, meanwhile, takes command of 14 Infantry Division at Okara, replacing Major General Waseem Iftikhar Cheema.
Qureshi was promoted in July 2026 and belongs to the 95th PMA Long Course and 38 Frontier Force Regiment.
Balochistan Postings
A key part of reshuffle is in Balochistan, where the Army and paramilitary forces face responsibilities ranging from border management to internal security and counter-terrorism.
Major General Zafar Iqbal, promoted in July 2026 and from the 95th PMA Long Course and 24 Azad Kashmir Regiment, has been appointed Inspector General Frontier Corps (South) Balochistan. He replaces Major General Bilal Sarfaraz, whose next assignment is expected to be announced separately.
Major General Ahmed Farhan, another July 2026 promotee from the 95th PMA Long Course and 26 Baloch Regiment, has been appointed the first Inspector General of the newly raised Frontier Corps (West) Balochistan. The creation of the western FC command adds another senior layer to the security architecture of the province, particularly in areas adjoining Afghanistan and Iran.
New Coast Guards Commander
Pakistan Coast Guards have also received a new commander. Major General Atif Rafique, promoted in July 2026 and belonging to the 95th PMA Long Course and 33 Punjab Regiment, has been appointed Director General Pakistan Coast Guards in Karachi. He replaces Major General Jawwad Riaz, who is moving to ISI as DG P.
The Coast Guards operate along Pakistan’s coastal belt and perform security and law-enforcement duties, including counter-smuggling and maritime-security functions.
The reshuffle also includes Major General Hassan Mehdi, another officer promoted in July 2026. Mehdi, from the 95th PMA Long Course and 15 Punjab Regiment, has reportedly been appointed Chief of Staff, Central Command.
The posting has attracted attention because it may represent a newly created appointment. Southern Command in Okara already has a Chief of Staff, Major General Ali Ejaz Rafi, according to the information available.
Most of the officers receiving new assignments are part of the Army’s latest promotion cycle, with several promoted to Major General in July 2026.
The reshuffle creates movement of officers between operational formations and intelligence assignments, including Warriach’s transition from a field command to Military Intelligence and Shabir’s reported movement from an intelligence role to divisional command.
