LAHORE – Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari said on Wednesday that the provincial government had intensified its campaign against corruption and corrupt government employees on the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
Azma Bokhari said action against corrupt officials was continuing across Punjab’s government departments, particularly within the provincial police force.
She said the strict disciplinary action had been taken against 791 officers and personnel of the Punjab Police over alleged involvement in corruption during the past 13 days.
According to Azma Bokhari, 78 police personnel had been dismissed from service, while another 60 had been suspended over corruption allegations.
She said 230 officials had been sent to the police lines as part of disciplinary proceedings, while 79 personnel had faced demotion and arrest in connection with corruption-related matters.
The minister further said departmental inquiries were currently under way against 274 police personnel, while criminal cases had been registered against 70 others.
Azma Bokhari said the provincial government was pursuing a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption and corrupt practices. She maintained that corrupt elements had no place in Punjab’s government institutions or police force.
She also expressed appreciation for citizens who had reported complaints against corrupt government employees, saying public cooperation was essential for ensuring accountability and improving the functioning of government institutions.
The minister said the government was committed to taking action against officials found involved in corrupt practices, regardless of their position.
“Corruption and corrupt elements have no place in Punjab,” she said.
Azma Bokhari added that eliminating corruption from the province was among Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s key priorities.
