RIYADH – Saudi Arabia appointed Dr. Rajeh Tami Albugamy, a retired Major General with a distinguished military career and an academic background in human resource management, as its new Ambassador to Pakistan.
The appointment was formally announced through official Saudi government channels, while Dr. Albugamy took the oath of office before Mohammed bin Salman on Tuesday, officially assuming his diplomatic responsibilities.
Dr. Albugamy retired from the Saudi armed forces in 2024 with the rank of Major General before transitioning to the Kingdom’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he was appointed with ambassadorial rank. He now becomes Riyadh’s top diplomat in Pakistan, succeeding a tenure that saw Saudi-Pakistan ties expand across multiple sectors. Alongside his military and diplomatic experience, he holds a Ph.D. in Human Resource Management (HRM) from Brunel University London, earned in 2015.

The appointment comes at a time when Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are steadily broadening cooperation beyond traditional political ties. Over the past year, both countries have accelerated engagement in trade, investment, regional security, defence collaboration and economic cooperation, with high-level exchanges focusing on boosting bilateral commerce, facilitating investment opportunities and strengthening strategic coordination on regional issues.
Observers view the selection of a former senior military officer as ambassador as a strong indication that defence cooperation is expected to remain a central pillar of Pakistan-Saudi relations, while economic diplomacy is likely to gain further momentum. Riyadh has emerged as one of Pakistan’s key strategic partners, with both governments actively pursuing closer collaboration in defence, infrastructure, energy, investment and trade.
Dr. Albugamy’s arrival is therefore expected to push current phase of bilateral engagement, with renewed efforts as two countries’ longstanding strategic friendship entered deeper economic partnerships for defence coordination and commercial opportunities.
