ISLAMABAD – Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to regional peace as Islamabad is ready to help bridge differences and continue playing the role of an honest mediator as tensions in the Gulf fuel fears of wider instability.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni on Tuesday, and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace, saying the South Asian nation would continue to play the role of an “honest and sincere mediator” as he met Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni amid heightened tensions in the Gulf.

During the meeting at the Prime Minister’s House, the premier expressed deep concern over the recent escalation in the Gulf and urged all sides to exercise restraint, warning against any actions that could further destabilize the region.
Shehbaz stressed that Pakistan remained firmly committed to promoting peace and stability and would continue facilitating dialogue to help ease regional tensions.
Recalling his visit to Tehran earlier this month to attend the funeral of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the prime minister conveyed his best wishes and respects to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei and Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian.
Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for the warm welcome extended to him and his delegation in Islamabad and conveyed goodwill messages from the Iranian leadership.
Leading a high-level delegation of senior officials, Momeni said his visit reflected both countries’ shared commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation across multiple sectors.
The Iranian minister also lauded the mediation efforts of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, saying their sustained diplomatic engagement helped pave the way for the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, describing it as a significant step towards regional understanding.
He also expressed gratitude to the Pakistani premier for travelling to Tehran to attend the funeral of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, calling it a gesture that reflected the close relationship between the two neighbouring countries.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Prime Minister’s Adviser Dr. Syed Tauqir Shah, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, and other senior government officials.
