RAWALPINDI – Pakistan and Iran reaffirmed their commitment to closer security cooperation on Tuesday as Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni held high-level talks with Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, ISPR said.
In a statement, Inter-Services Public Relations said the meeting focused on wide range of strategic issues, including regional and bilateral security, border management, and enhanced coordination to address shared security challenges. Both sides reviewed the evolving regional situation and discussed ways to strengthen cooperation for maintaining peace and stability.
During the discussions, Iranian minister praised Pakistan’s active diplomatic engagement in the region, acknowledging Islamabad’s efforts to help reduce tensions, encourage dialogue among regional stakeholders and support initiatives aimed at preventing further escalation. He described Pakistan as an important contributor to regional peace and stability.
Two sides agreed to deepen institutional coordination and expand cooperative mechanisms to ensure effective border management, reinforce mutual trust and advance shared security interests.
The meeting concluded with a renewed pledge to maintain close collaboration in tackling common challenges, strengthening bilateral ties and working jointly for lasting regional peace, security and prosperity.
