LAHORE – The families are much concerned about safety of their children and loved ones regarding swimming pools after a nine-year-old girl who had travelled from Dubai to Lahore for her summer holidays tragically died in a Lahore water park pool.
The families are avoiding to visit swimming and water pools in Lahore due to fear amid scorching heat and humid weather conditions.
The victim, identified as Rahmeen Fatima, had arrived in Lahore a few days earlier to spend her vacation with relatives in Misri Shah.
On July 13, she visited a private water park near Jallo Mor with family members and other children.
According to the family, Rahmeen suddenly went missing while swimming. Relatives immediately alerted the park administration, and after an extensive search, her body was recovered from the third drainage manhole connected to the pool.
Police reached the scene after being informed and registered a case against the water park management. Three suspects, including the park manager, were taken into custody as part of the investigation.
Rahmeen’s father, Muhammad Nadeem, said she was the couple’s only child, born after nine years of marriage. He alleged that the water park staff had opened the pool’s drainage outlets while children were swimming and that there were no protective safety grilles covering the drainage holes.
He described the incident as more than negligence, accusing the management of criminal irresponsibility that led to his daughter’s death.
The authorities have launched an investigation to determine whether safety protocols were violated and to establish responsibility for the fatal incident.
