How Much Taxes Are Pakistanis Paying On Petrol Diesel As Prices Touch Rs400 Per Litre

ISLAMABAD – Pakistani government jacked up petroleum pricing and taxation, sending shockwaves as fuel rates climb to Rs400 per litre mark amid big jump in global markets.

New Petrol Levy

Under new policy, a fresh petroleum levy of Rs28.69 per litre has been imposed on high-speed diesel. The sudden introduction of this levy is expected to heavily burden transporters, farmers, and the entire supply chain, raising fears of a sharp rise in goods movement costs nationwide.

At the same time, authorities have reduced the petroleum levy on petrol by Rs3.88 per litre, bringing it down from Rs107.38 to Rs103.50 per litre. Officials confirmed that the revised levy structure will officially take effect from May 1.

Tax  Amount per litre
Petroleum Levy (PL) 103.50
Customs Duty ~20–25
Climate / Carbon Levy ~2–3
Pipeline / Inland Freight Equalization (IFEM) & regulatory charges ~0–5
General Sales Tax (GST) 0

Despite this minor relief on paper, consumers are facing steep price hikes. Petrol prices have been increased by Rs6.51 per litre, pushing the new rate to Rs399.86 per litre. Diesel has been hit even harder, soaring by Rs19.39 per litre to reach Rs399.58 per litre.

New Petrol Price

The price hikes and tax restructuring are expected to trigger widespread economic pressure, with analysts warning of a direct inflationary shock. Rising fuel costs are likely to increase transportation expenses and push up the prices of essential commodities across the country, adding further strain on already burdened households.
