ISLAMABAD – Bad news for consumers planning to apply for new gas connections as well as those already waiting in the pipeline, as Petroleum Division suspended process amid a worsening gas crisis caused by RLNG supply disruptions. Thousands of applicants are now facing uncertainty, with both new applications and pending cases put on hold until further notice.
Ths South Asian nation is once again plunging deeper into an escalating gas crisis, and sudden clampdown on new gas connections sparked alarm nationwide, leaving thousands of applicants stranded and exposing growing pressure on the country’s fragile energy system.
Even those who submitted urgent vouchers and paid demand notices, have now been put on hold without warning. The sweeping suspension has effectively locked thousands of pending connections in limbo, with no clear timeline for resolution.
After years of restrictions, the government had only recently restarted issuing new gas connections, and hundreds of households had already been connected before the system was once again disrupted. The reversal has raised serious questions about energy planning and policy stability.
Meanwhile, the impact is being felt directly by the public. Due to the deepening shortage, gas supply to households has already been restricted to limited hours, forcing families to adjust their daily routines around unpredictable availability.
Senior General Manager of Sui Northern, Imran Yousaf, confirmed the suspension, stating that the breakdown in RLNG supply has made it necessary to temporarily halt all new connections. He assured that the process would resume once supply conditions improve, but notably avoided giving any specific timeline.
The government redirected gas supplies away from the CNG sector and toward power generation. While intended to stabilize electricity production, the decision has sparked fears of severe disruption for transport operators and CNG-dependent businesses.
Under the gas load management strategy, authorities claim domestic consumers will be prioritized during peak cooking hours to reduce hardship at home. However, many experts and consumers fear that this limited relief will do little to offset the broader impact of the crisis.
