Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif announced that all members of the federal cabinet will not get their salaries for the next six months, and that the funds saved will be directly used for public welfare.
PM unveiled a comprehensive relief package aimed at providing immediate financial respite to citizens:
- Petrol prices slashed by 80 per liter, effective tonight, bringing the new price to 378 per liter.
- Subsidy of 100 per liter for motorcycles and public transport to support daily commuters.
- Farmers to receive 1,500 per acre as direct financial aid.
- Economy train fares remain unchanged, ensuring affordable travel for the common people.
Addressing the nation, the Prime Minister highlighted the challenges faced by ordinary citizens, farmers, and low-income groups due to soaring fuel prices. He stated that the government had carefully used limited national resources to ease the public’s hardships.
The decisions were made after consultations with all provinces, as well as leaders from Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Measures under the targeted subsidy program will also be implemented in these regions. PM Shehbaz, along with Deputy PM and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, emphasized continued efforts to promote de-escalation in the Middle East.
