Rains are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and parts of Pakistan on Saturday and Sunday with occasional gaps.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a westerly wave prevails over the western parts of Pakistan. It will grip the upper parts of the country tomorrow evening.
Under these conditions, cold and partly cloudy weather is expected in most parts of the country on Friday night. Rains are expected at isolated places in southwest Balochistan. Fog/smog is likely to persist in Punjab and Upper Sindh.
On Saturday and Sunday, cold and partly cloudy weather is expected in most parts of the country. Rains are expected in the twin cities, parts of Punjab, northwest/northern Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir. Fog/smog is likely to persist in the plains of Punjab and Upper Sindh.
Wet conditions will cause a decrease in the mercury levels during the daytime. Snowfall may cause road closures, slippery conditions in Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Hunza, Skardu, Murree, Galliyat, Neelum Valley, Bagh, Poonch and Haveli.
There is a possibility of landslides/avalanches in hilly areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir. Tourists are advised to remain extra cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during the period.
Islamabad’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 05°C and 07°C on Saturday, between 06°C and 08°C on Sunday, and between 05°C and 07°C on Monday.
Rawalpindi’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 07°C and 09°C on Saturday, between 08°C and 10°C on Sunday, and between 07°C and 09°C on Monday.
Meanwhile, cold and partly cloudy weather prevailed over most parts of the country during the last 24 hours. Fog/smog persisted over some districts of Punjab and upper Sindh.
Leh remained the coldest place in the country, where the temperature dropped 05°C below the freezing point. The minimum temperature in Gupis, Bagrote and Skardu was recorded at -02°C.
In Islamabad, the minimum temperature was recorded at 06°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 93 per cent.
In Rawalpindi, the minimum temperature was recorded at 08°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 76 per cent.
