PAARL – South Africa’s spinner Keshav Maharaj has been ruled out of the One-Day series against Pakistan.
During warm-up ahead of the first ODI against Pakistan, left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj experienced back pain, which prevented him from playing the match.
Although he was initially included in the playing eleven, due to the injury, Andile Phehlukwayo was included in the first match in his place.
After the medical report came out, South African selectors advised Keshav Maharaj to rest for the scheduled ODIs on Thursday (today).
Keshav Maharaj is part of the 16-member Test squad for the two-match series against Pakistan, with the first Test starting on December 26.
South African board in its statement said that Maharaj would return to Centurion from Durban for rehabilitation, where the efforts would be made to improve his fitness after which a final announcement would be made regarding his availability for the Test series.
