NEW YORK – The United Nations General Assembly on Thursday once again adopted a resolution calling for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Gaza.
The resolution passed by the General Assembly also demands the release of all hostages by both Israel and Hamas.
Out of 193 member states, 158 voted in favor of the Gaza ceasefire resolution. The United States, Israel, and seven other countries voted against it, while 13 abstained.
During the same session, a resolution in support of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) was also adopted.
This resolution received 159 votes in favor, 99 against, and 11 abstentions.
The resolution supporting UNRWA called on Israel to respect the agency’s mandate and comply with international law.
It also urged the provision of necessary assistance to ensure UNRWA could continue delivering uninterrupted humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip.
It may be mentioned here that since the attacks on October 7, 2023, Israeli aggression resulted in the martyrdom of 44,805 Palestinians and left over 106,257 injured.
More than half of the casualties comprise women and children.
