LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Monday increased the number of “Kisan Cards” from 500,000 to 750,000 in a bid to boost to farmers’ welfare.

A spokesperson for the Department of Agriculture said that a total of 1.29 million applications have been received through the Kisan Card portal.

Out of these, the Bank of Punjab has approved 487,000 applications, and over 361,000 cards have already been distributed to farmers.

The spokesperson added that farmers have made purchases worth PKR 18 billion using the Kisan Card so far. The card is considered a game-changer for agricultural development and farmers’ prosperity, enabling them to buy seeds, fertilizers, and agricultural pesticides.

Besides it, the farmers across the province have been provided interest-free loans to purchase agricultural inputs for the wheat crop from 2,600 registered dealers.

The spokesperson further clarified that the farmers from non-computerized localities are also eligible to benefit from the Kisan Card scheme.
