ISLAMABAD – Ministry of Water and Power rolled out new electricity relief package aimed at providing financial relief to consumers during the upcoming winter season.

Under the new relief package, power consumers will get benefit from reduction in per-unit price of electricity for additional usage during the upcoming months.

As per Power Division, relief package will apply to extra electricity consumption in comparison to last year, offering a flat rate discount of up to Rs26 rupees and 7 paisa per unit. The package will be valid for three months, from December 2024 to February 2025.

The relief will be available to all categories of consumers, including domestic, commercial, and industrial users. This move is expected to encourage increased electricity usage during the winter months when heating needs typically rise.

The government already prepared winter plan to promote additional electricity consumption, with target of increasing demand by 8,000 to 15,000 megawatts. The winter package is expected to provide significant relief, with proposals to offer up to 12 rupees per unit off for extra electricity usage.

The package is part of the government’s broader strategy to manage electricity demand while easing the financial burden on consumers during the colder months.
