ISLAMABAD – Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi said that Pakistan fully agreed with China’s concept of linking development and security, and ensured the safety of Chinese citizens and projects is a top priority.
“Safety of Chinese’ citizens is our top priority,” said Mohsin Naqvi during a meeting with Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong at the Ministry of Interior on Thursday.
Mohsin Naqvi said all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the security of CPEC projects. The security arrangements are being further enhanced and strengthened to ensure a safe and peaceful environment for Chinese citizens.
Mohsin Naqvi said that those involved in the Karachi incident would be held accountable and brought to justice. He emphasized that Pakistan and China are iron brothers and durable partners.
During the meeting, the Interior Minister expressed regret over the incident in Karachi in which two Chinese nationals were injured by gunfire from a guard, and conveyed his heartfelt sympathy to the injured Chinese citizens and their families.
Mohsin Naqvi also updated the Chinese Ambassador on the details and progress of the investigation into the incident.
The Interior Minister expressed full solidarity with the Chinese Ambassador, the government of China, and the families of the injured Chinese citizens, and wished for their swift recovery.
During the meeting, the Federal Interior Minister and the Chinese Ambassador agreed to formulate a joint strategy to prevent such incidents in the future.
On this occasion, the Chinese Ambassador stated that through joint efforts, the Pakistan-China friendship continues to grow, and there has been comprehensive progress in practical cooperation. In this context, a secure and stable cooperation environment is crucial. He also mentioned that China is ready to further strengthen bilateral security cooperation and enhance the capabilities of Pakistani institutions.
The Chinese Ambassador thanked the Interior Minister for making excellent arrangements during the Chinese Prime Minister’s visit to Pakistan, inquired about the health of President Asif Ali Zardari, and wished for his quick recovery. The Chinese Ambassador added that Chinese President Xi Jinping had written a letter to the President of Pakistan, conveying his best wishes.
The Federal Secretary for the Interior and senior officials from the Chinese Embassy were also present at the meeting.
