WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, head of the Pakistan Caucus in the U.S. Congress, has passed away.
According to media reports, Sheila Jackson Lee was 74 years old and had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
Sheila Jackson, from the U.S. state of Houston, was among the longest-serving Democratic Congress members from Texas.
Sheila Jackson began her political career as a Democrat in 1994 and defeated four-time Democratic primary winner Craig Washington in her first primary election.
The Government of Pakistan awarded Sheila Jackson the Hilal-e-Pakistan in September 2022 in recognition of her services.
Sheila Jackson was also known for participating in public gatherings and was recognized for her efforts to secure federal funds for her area of Houston.
In 2009, she secured a substantial amount of one billion dollars for the improvement of the city’s light system.
