Suki Kinari Hydropower Project has been finished, in another China–Pakistan Economic Corridor CPEC achievement, that will further bolster Pakistan’s Energy Sector.

Wang Huihua, Managing Director of the China Energy International Group Limited Pakistan Branch and China Chamber of Commerce in Pakistan, said in an exclusive interview with news agency that CPEC has achieved significant successes since its inception in 2013.

Under the CPEC framework, the 884-megawatt Suki Kinari Hydropower Project, worth $1.9 billion, has been completed. Energy China is prioritizing measures to invest further in Pakistan.

So far, a total of $25.4 billion in direct investment has come to Pakistan under CPEC, creating 236,000 jobs, adding 510 kilometers of highways, more than 8,000 megawatts of electricity, and 886 kilometers of the national core transmission grid.

He further mentioned that from initial cooperation focusing on Gwadar port, transportation infrastructure, energy, and industry, to the “upgraded version of CPEC” focusing on development, livelihoods, innovation, environmental friendliness, and openness, CPEC will undoubtedly provide broader development opportunities for Pakistan in the future.

Mr Huihua said this project plays a crucial role in Pakistan’s energy security and economic development. As we inaugurate this significant part of the project, we also celebrate the joint efforts that brought us here. From hardworking engineers and dedicated workers to our esteemed partners and supporters, your collective contribution has been invaluable.

This transmission line is more than just a technical achievement. It is a symbol of progress and a testament to our commitment to building a resilient and reliable energy network. He expressed confidence that the 500KV double circuit quad bundle transmission line will play a key role in enhancing our national grid’s capacity, ensuring stable and efficient power transmission by connecting Neelum Jhelum and the 844-megawatt Suki Kinari Project. By significantly reducing transmission losses and strengthening grid stability, we are ensuring a more reliable power supply.

He called project a cornerstone of our strategy to improve grid infrastructure, directly impacting the quality of life for millions of people and supporting the continuous operation of essential services. He said that a strong and reliable energy supply is the backbone of economic development.

This transmission line will support CPEC industrial zones, Special Economic Zones (SEZs), and urban centers, creating a favorable environment for investment and development. By providing the necessary energy to factories, businesses, and homes, we are laying the foundation for sustainable economic growth. Reliable energy infrastructure attracts local and foreign investment, promotes job creation, and fosters economic diversification.

He noted that collaboration with Chinese companies under CPEC has facilitated technology and skill transfer, enhancing local capacity and our ability to operate and run modern energy infrastructure. He emphasized the unwavering commitment of China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) to the development of Pakistan’s energy sector.

He further expressed confidence that Pakistan will overcome its energy challenges and emerge stronger, more resilient, and more sustainable.
