Govt announces public holidays on July 16, 17 – Ashura 2024

ISLAMABAD – The federal government has announced public holidays on Muharram 9 and 19 (July 16 and 17) on the account of Ashura 2024.

The government has issued a notification in this regard.

The first day of new Hijri year 1446 was observedt on Monday, July 8 Monday.

Members of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, representatives from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Department of Meteorology, SUPARCO, and the Ministry of Science and Technology attended the meeting in Quetta. Simultaneously, provincial and district moon sighting committees conducted their meetings at their respective headquarters.

First Islamic month is the time of mourning for Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS), and his family and companions who were martyred during the battle of Karbala.
