Ashura 9, 10 Muharram Holidays in Pakistan 2024

LAHORE – Muslims are set to welcome new Islamic year on July 7 as first Muharram is expected to be held on Sunday.

With the start of new Islamic year, Muslims will be looking to observe Ashura, a day of commemoration in Islam that occurs annually on tenth of the month.

Ashura Holidays in Pakistan

In July, there will be two consecutive holidays to observe Ashura, which falls on Muharram 9 and 10.

Pakistan government already these two holidays in 2024 calendar. As people are expecting Ashura to be held on Monday and Tuesday, the exact dates will be confirmed following Ruet-e-Hilal Committee’s decision on the Muharram moon sighting.

If moon is sighted on July 6, Muharram 1 will be on July 7, making Ashura fall on July 15 and 16. Consequently, the public holidays will be on July 15 and 16 (Monday and Tuesday).

If the new Islamic year starts on July 8, Ashura will be on July 16 and 17, resulting in public holidays on July 16 and 17 (Tuesday and Wednesday).
