Delivering Hajj sermon at Masjid-i-Nimrah in Maidan-i-Arafat, Sheikh Maher Al Muaiqly called Muslims to forge unity, saying it would surely lead to salvation of the Ummah in addition to averting any discords or divisions. He emphasised significance of the Sharia in leading one’s way of life to help flourish and achieve development.
The sermon was delivered as hundreds of thousands of pilgrims converge in Arafat on 9th Zilhaj to perform main ritual of the annual pilgrimage and to carry the messages so delivered back to their homes in different parts of the globe. It is the same place from where the Prophet of Islam (Peace Be Upon Him) delivered his last sermon in the 7th century, which is considered as Magna Carta of Human Rights as it includes messages about human values and rights that are vital for all people, regardless of religion or ethnicity. In fact, the Hajj sermon, every year, is based on the spirit of the last sermon of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and addresses issues that need immediate attention of the Muslims everywhere. The call for unity came in the backdrop of sufferings and discrimination that Muslims face in different parts of the globe and in the context of their plight in the Gaza and Middle-East, Occupied Kashmir and as a minority in India besides Muslim-bashing in some countries of the West. Islam offers complete code of life for the life herein and hereafter yet regrettably we are not practically following teachings of this universal religion and that is the main reason for agonies that all Muslims are facing today.
