Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah unveiled a plaque to inaugurate a state-of-the-art Vocational Training Centre in Karachi. This milestone initiative aims to equip differently-abled individuals with essential skills for a more inclusive society. At a cheque distribution ceremony held at CM House, the Chief Minister disbursed Rs71.252 million in funding to various NGOs dedicated to supporting persons with disabilities. These funds will be utilized to procure assistive devices, enhancing the quality of life for differently-abled individuals.
The event was attended by prominent figures, including Secretary to CM RaheemShaikh, Secretary of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPD) TauhaFarooqi, and representatives from NGOs and rehabilitation centres. CM Murad Ali Shah emphasized his government’s commitment to establishing rehabilitation centres across the province, providing opportunities for parents to enroll their differently-abled children and empowering them to become productive members of society.
This initiative aligns with the government’s vision of creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for persons with disabilities. The NGOs given cheques include Ida Rieu Welfare Association Rs29.135 million, JS Academy of Noor-e-Ali Trust Rs10 million, Marie Adelaide Leprosy Centre (MALC) Rs11.446 million, Autism Care & Rehabilitation Organization (ACRO) Rs1.557 million, Pakistan Association of Blind (PAB) National Rs9.430 million, Special Children School Karsaz of Pak navy Rs4.178 million, Imran Rehabilitation Centre (ShareefHaroon Trust) Rs3.5 million, NGO for Development of Special Persons (NDSP) Rs586,000 and Pakistan Wheelchair Cricket Council (PWCC) Rs 1.425 million. He got the plaque unveiled by a differently-abled person – Ali Ansar. The ceremony was attended by provincial secretaries, notables and heads of different NGOs working for persons with disabilities. The CM was told that 240 persons with disabilities, including 120 girls have been enrolled at the Vocation Centre and they are being imparted vocational training. Of 240 students, 60 have been enrolled in Computer Science, 72 in Tailoring, 48 in Beautification and 60 in Mobile Repair. The CM directed the Secretary DEPD to run the centre effectively and he would provide more facilities and equipment if needed.
