ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Army has appointed Lt Gen Nauman Zakria as commander of Mangla Corps amidst a reshuffle.
Reshuffles like these in the armed forces are closely monitored as they can indicate who might take top positions.
Lt Gen Nauman Zakria, who previously served as Chief of Logistics Staff, gets commander rank in Mangla Corps. The position was vacant after the early retirement of Lieutenant General Ayman Bilal Safdar.
Lt Gen Nauman Zakria previously hold key positions including General Officer Commanding 9 Infantry Division, Waziristan. During his position as DG Military Operations (DG MO), Lt Gen Zakria played a key role in operational planning paradigm of Army.
Earlier this week, Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Gen Ahmad Sharif Chaudhry, responded to a query regarding General Safdar’s premature retirement. He clarified that the military’s self-accountability is a rigorous, transparent, and ongoing process.
Lt Gen Omer Bukhari as new Corps Commander Peshawar
Lt Gen Omer Bukhari, after getting promotion as 3-star (lieutenant) general gets commander rank in Peshawar-XI Corps. He replaced Lt-Gen Hassan Azhar Hayat Khan, who will be retiring this month.
Gen Azhar Hayat served as Peshawar Corps Commander since August 2022 and he was supposed to hang his boots on May 16.
