ISLAMABAD – The government is expected to drop another electricity bomb on inflation-stricken public, with the possibility of an additional increase of Rs2.94 per unit in electricity prices, the sources privy to the development said on Thursday.
With this increase, the consumers would bear a burden of over Rs20 billion in a month.
The sources said that the reasons for the approved increases in electricity prices have also come to light.
They said that 22 cheap power plants running on gas were shut down in March while 13 plants running on natural gas were closed last month. In March, only 9 plants were operational running on RNLG.
The sources said that the electricity was also generated from furnace oil last month. In March, 7.75 billion units of electricity were produced at a cost of Rs72.76 billion.
