GILGIT – The arrest warrants for former Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan and leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Khalid Khurshid have been issued in the fake degree case.

The arrest warrants have been issued after he failed to appear before the court.

He had been on bail in the said case.

Earlier, the Chief Court of Gilgit-Baltistan had declared Khalid Khurshid disqualified in the fake degree case in July last year.

A three-member bench comprising Justice Malik Anayatullah, Justice Johar Ali, and Justice Muhammad Mushtaq issued the decision on the disqualification request.

Ghulam Shehzad Agha, a member of the Pakistan People’s Party in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, had demanded disqualification under Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution while challenging the degree of the then Chief Minister Khalid Khurshid.

The petitioner had contended that the degree obtained by him from the University of London was not verified, and the Higher Education Commission had declared it fake.

The court had issued notices to HEC, Gilgit-Baltistan Bar Council, and the Election Commission to submit their responses while issuing notices on the matter.

The HEC had informed the court that after declaring the degree of the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan as fake by the University of London, he had returned the LLB degree issued to Khalid Khurshid.

Before his disqualification, members affiliated with opposition parties in Gilgit-Baltistan had also moved a motion of no-confidence against Khalid Khurshid.
