ISLAMABAD – The prices of petrol and diesel are said to move up from April 2024 owing to surge in global oil rates and government’s plan to raise levy on all POLs.

People in Pakistan will bear brunt again after fresh shock of over Rs9 per liter. Sources familiar with the development claimed that petrol prices will go up by upto Rs 8 per liter.

With the expected surge in fuel price, the petrol price from April 16 will be around Rs298 per liter as compared to current price of Rs289.40 per liter.

Expected Petrol Price in Pakistan April 2024

POLs Current Price Expected Price Difference
Petrol Rs289.40 Rs298 Rs8
Diesel Rs282 Rs284.24 Rs2.24

It has been learnt that diesel will also move up by around Rs2 per litre. The new rate will be around Rs284.24 per liter from the old rate of Rs282.

Unofficial reports claim that Pakistani government is planning to increase petrol prices due to rupee devaluation and the strained geopolitical situation in Middle East.

The surge is not directly linked to IMF recommendations for GST hike. Petroleum levy may rise from Rs. 60 to Rs. 100 per liter, with the current levy at the maximum limit of Rs. 60 per liter. This could lead to record-high petrol prices in Pakistan.
