LONDON – Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has urged stakeholders to seriously examine the trade situation with India, following concerns from the business community.
This proactive move signals Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining fair relationships, identifying concerns, and taking appropriate action to strengthen its economy and overall relationship with India.
In August 2019, Pakistan suspended bilateral trade with India after India revoked occupied Kashmir’s special status.
In March 2021, the Economic Coordination Committee allowed the private sector to import white sugar and cotton from India via the Wagah border.
Dar referred to the August 2019 move as “extreme step” and “very painful” and noted United Nations Security Council resolutions on the ongoing dispute.
He emphasized the business community’s appeals for increased freight, transhipment, and transportation costs.
