Following directives from the Sindh government. Commissioner Karachi, Muhammad Saleem Rajput, stated that administration officials across all areas of the city are rigorously enforcing government-set prices to provide relief to citizens during the holy month. Commissioner Rajput emphasized strict enforcement of official rates and directed Deputy Commissioners to ensure compliance.
Police, along with officials from the Food Department and Weights and Measures Department, are actively assisting in field operations. Instructions have been issued for thorough price checks in every locality and swift action against violations. In an operation on Saturday, fines exceeding Rs. 1.867 million were imposed on 189 major retailers. Additionally, two shops were sealed in South and East districts for violating official rates.
Detailed reports of the crackdown conducted over the past ten days have been released, revealing that fines totaling Rs. 10.4091 million were imposed on 1,738 retailers. In South district alone, fines amounting to Rs. 615,000 were imposed on 40 retailers, while in East district, fines of Rs. 420,000 were imposed on 29 retailers.
In West district, fines exceeding Rs. 157,000 were collected from 36 retailers, and in Central district, fines of Rs. 344,000 were imposed on 38 retailers. Similar fines were imposed in other areas, including Malir, Korangi, Kemari, and Keamari, amounting to a total of over Rs. 1.2 million. The administration remains committed to ensuring compliance with official prices to provide relief to the public during Ramazan.
