LAHORE – Former Pakistan Chief Selector Inzamam-ul-Haq on strongly criticized the former PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf, saying that he is responsible for the national team’s poor performance in the 2023 World Cup.

Inzamam expressed dissatisfaction with Zaka Ashraf’s statements during the World Cup.

He was talking to a local private TV on Wednesday.

Upon hearing statements from the PCB chairman in India, stating that the board did not influence team selection but rather the captain and chief selector had a negative mindset among the players, Inzamam was displeased.

In the 2023 World Cup, Pakistan secured the fifth position on the points table, with only four victories and five defeats in nine matches, ultimately failing to qualify for the semi-finals.

Inzamam had resigned from the position of chief selector of the Pakistan cricket team on October 30, 2023. Due to conflicts of interest in Inzamam’s shareholding in Talha Rahmani’s company, where Inzamam and other players such as Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Shadab Khan work as agents, he had to resign from his position.

To address the apparent conflicts of interest in the team selection process, the PCB established a five-member Fact-Finding Committee to investigate the allegations that surfaced in the media.

Inzamam, too, expressed patience in waiting for the report from the committee appointed by the PCB.

It may also be mentioned here that Zaka Ashraf recently resigned from the PCB’s Management Committee chairman position.
