LAHORE – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted that the prevailing cold wave and dense fog/smog will persist in Lahore and plains of Pakistan during the next two days.
As per the synoptic situation, continental air prevails over most parts of Pakistan.
Under these conditions, mainly cold and foggy weather is expected in Lahore and plains of Pakistan on Tuesday night, Wednesday and Thursday.
Freezing weather is expected in northern areas of the country.
Lahore’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 04-06 degrees Celsius on Wednesday and 03-05 C on Thursday.
Fog update for Pakistan
Dense fog/smog will likely prevail in Islamabad, and the plains of Punjab (Bahawalpur, Sahiwal, Okara, Kasur, Lahore, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Jhelum, Mangla, Faisalabad, Jhang, Sargodha, Mandi Bahauddin, Toba Tek Singh, Khanewal, Multan, Khanpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Hafizabad, Bhakkar, Layyah and Dera Ghazi Khan), Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and upper Sindh.
Meanwhile, dense fog/smog and cold waves prevailed in Lahore and plains of Pakistan during the last 24 hours.
Freezing weather prevailed in northern areas of Pakistan and north Balochistan.
Leh remained the coldest place in the country where mercury dropped 12 C below freezing.
Lahore’s minimum temperature was recorded at 05 C.
Relative humidity during the evening was recorded at 70 per cent.
Dense fog/smog prevailed in Islamabad, and plains of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and upper Sindh.
Fog update for Motorways
Less visibility forced the closure of Motorways (Peshawar-Swabi, Swabi-Islamabad, Islamabad-Kallar Kahar, Kallar Kahar-Pindi Bhattian, Pindi Bhattian-Lahore, Pindi Bhattian-Faisalabad, Lahore-Abdul Hakim, Sialkot-Lahore, Faisalabad-Multan, Multan-Sukkur and Mianwali-Dera Ismail Khan).
Fog update for National Highway
It also disrupted traffic on the National Highway and other inter and intra-city roads besides affecting flight operations and the schedule of passenger trains.
