LAHORE – Several regions of Pakistan are reeling under strong and intense cold wave, but the government has decided to open schools from January 10, 2024 (Wednesday).

For students in Punjab, school bells are ringing from tomorrow after three weeks of holidays.

The Punjab government’s decision to reopen schools has not pleased everyone as cold combined with worsening air quality.

Following the Punjab Chief Minister’s decision, several people online are requesting the government for extension in winter holidays amid the ongoing cold wave as temperature remains in single digits.

Posts shared on Twitter and social media accounts saw students and parents expressing concerns about the safety of students in the biting cold.

Punjab Schools Winter Vacations

On Monday, Punjab government announced to open schools despite the cold wave and alarming high AQI.

Initially, the winter holidays were announced from December 18-31, but the period was extended to January 9 amid cold wave.

Punjab’s caretaker Chief Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, confirmed the news on social media, announcing that students education remains of paramount importance. He made the announcement after meeting Chief Secretary and Education Minister.

CM urged children to wear warm clothes to protect themselves from the severe cold.
