PESHAWAR – The government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has announced additional winter holidays for all government and private primary schools as the region faces extreme weather conditions.
As cold gripped parts of the country, the provincial Elementary and School Education Department said winter vacations have been extended till January 13 amid severe cold and fog.
It said students from playgroup to Class 5 will have additional winter holidays until January 13, 2024. Meanwhile, officials also revised timings for middle/primary, high, and higher secondary schools.
As per the new rule, all educational institutions will operate from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm in place of previous timings (8:30 am to 2:30 pm).
The interim government made changes as Met Office predicted severe cold and fog in plain areas of the province, including provincial capital Peshawar, where mercury dropped to 1 degree Celsius.
Meanwhile, extreme fog is expected to remain in Charsadda, Peshawar, Nowshera, and other areas for the next few days.
Earlier, the government in Punjab extended school holidays for another 10 days due to poor weather conditions.
