All Parties Hurriyat Conference leaders while paying glowing tributes to the victims of Sopore massacre have said that the deteriorating situation in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir warrants an international initiative on the Kashmir dispute.

According to Kashmir Media Service, over 60 civil-ians were martyred and more than 400 shops and residential houses were gutted on this day in 1993 after Indian soldiers set ablaze the Sopore town of Baramulla district. The victim families are still awaiting justice while the perpetrators of the heinous crime are roaming scot free.

The APHC leaders and organizations including Professor Abdul Ghani Butt, Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori, Abdul Samad Inqilabi, Fayaz Hussain Jafari, Syed Sibte Shabbir Qummi, Advocate Arshad Iqbal, Maulana Musaib Nadvi, Muhammad Aqib, Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Political Movement, Kashmir Freedom Front, Jammu and Kashmir Employees Movement and Tehreek-e-Shababul Muslimeen in their statements in Srinagar deplored that Indian troops were perpetrating crimes against humanity and war crimes to suppress the Kashmiris’ freedom struggle. They demanded an impartial international probe into all the massacres in the occupied territory to punish the perpetrators.

Meanwhile, the Narendra Modi-led Indian govern-ment continues to snatch the properties of innocent people of occupied Kashmir to punish them for their affiliation with the ongoing freedom movement. In its fresh move the Modi regime seized the property of a civilian Mushtaq Ahmad in Chanapora area of Srinagar, today. The Indian authorities have already confiscated the APHC headquarters in Srinagar and hundreds of houses and properties belonging to Hurriyat leaders and organizations. The occupation authorities have also demolished many residential houses, shops, shopping complexes and other prop-erties in the territory.

A forceful anti-India protest demonstration was held at Burhan Wani in Muzaffarabad, today, on the completion of 31 years to the Sopore massacre. A large number of people participated in the demon-stration organized by Tehreek-e-Shababul Muslimeen Students Wing. The protesters were holding banners and placards condemning the Indian state terrorism in occupied Kashmir.

On the other hand, the World Kashmir Awareness Forum, a Washington-based advocacy body, dis-played messages on mobile billboard trucks in New York, calling upon the UN to fulfill its pledge to-wards the people of Jammu and Kashmir of granting them their right to self-determination. The trucks moved about the streets on the Kashmiris’ Right to Self-Determination Day observed yesterday, the 5th January. The electronic screens on the mobile digital trucks carried messages such as, “From Kashmir to Palestine: Occupation is a crime”, “Indian forces on killing spree: Kashmir needs to be set free” and “Kashmiris reject Indian occupation: UN resolution only solution”.—KMS
