TERRORISM emanating from Afghanistan continues to hurt Pakistan. Despite continuous pleas and diplomatic efforts urging Afghan authorities to curb the use of their territory for nefarious activities against Pakistan, recent incidents in the Batwar area of Bajaur district and the Spinwam area of North Waziristan district underscore the unyielding nature of this challenge.

In the Batwar area, three terrorists attempted to infiltrate the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. The security forces successfully tracked their movement, leading to a fire-fight that resulted in the elimination of all three terrorists. In a separate incident, militants from Afghanistan targeted a Pakistani border post in the Spinwam area, triggering a robust response from Pakistani troops. While the troops effectively countered the attackers, the sacrifice of a security personnel in the line of duty underscores the human toll associated with combating the incessant cross-border terrorism. The failure of Afghanistan to take decisive action against terrorist elements operating from its soil is not only hurting Pakistan but also undermining the trust and cooperation between the two countries. It is crucial for Afghanistan to recognize that ensuring peace and stability within its borders is directly linked to its economic integration and connectivity with the broader region. A secure Afghanistan is essential for attracting businesses and investment that are paramount for rebuilding the war-torn country and improving the life of its people. Economic progress is intricately linked to peace and Afghanistan’s commitment to eradicating terrorism will not only enhance its own security but also contribute to the prosperity of the entire region. Pakistan, having consistently raised its voice for the Afghan people in addressing their humanitarian crises, expects positive engagement from Afghan authorities to address the root issue of terrorism. To foster a more robust and collaborative relationship, it is imperative that Afghan authorities take concrete actions to dismantle terrorist networks. This step is not only in the interest of regional security but also aligns with Afghanistan’s own aspirations for stability, development and global recognition. Hopefully, Afghanistan will heed Pakistan’s calls for joint efforts in countering terrorism, thus paving the way for a more secure and prosperous future for both nations. Only through mutual cooperation can the shared goal of regional peace and stability be achieved.
