ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s noted diplomat and former Foreign Secretary Riaz Hussain Khokar breathed his last after chronic illness, his family said Tuesday.
The 81-year-old was suffering from cardiac conditions for quite some time. The funeral prayer of the late civil servant will be held at Islamabad’s H-8 graveyard.
Mr Khokhar was born in December 1942. He joined Foreign Service of Pakistan in 1966. He held several diplomatic positions, including Pakistan’s ambassador to India, the US, and China before assuming the top post of Foreign Secretary of Pakistan at the Foreign Ministry.
Meanwhile, a Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs was postponed due to the demise of Riaz Hussain Khokar.
Several leaders including Senator Sherry Rehman condoled death of Riaz Khokar and remembered him a strong supporter of progressive nation.
Sherry expressed her heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Riaz Khokhar.
