The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has put authorities on high alert as rain is expected across several parts of the province on October 6 and 7.
The weather system is likely to bring rainfall to Rawalpindi, Murree, Galyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad and Wazirabad.
Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Mianwali, Khushab, Sargodha, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh and Faisalabad may also receive showers.
PDMA Director General Muhammad Saif Anwer Jappa has instructed commissioners, deputy commissioners and concerned agencies to maintain a state of readiness. Special attention has been given to Murree, Galyat, and other mountainous areas due to the risk of landslides.
The warning was issued in line with directions from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, with district administrations asked to take precautionary measures. The Health, Irrigation, Communication and Works, Local Government and Livestock departments have also been told to remain prepared.
The PDMA advised people to avoid vulnerable buildings, including old or mud-built houses, during adverse weather. Residents should stay in secure places during strong winds and avoid unnecessary movement.
People have also been cautioned against going outdoors during thunderstorms due to the threat of lightning. Parents have been urged to keep children away from standing water, low-lying areas, electricity cables and utility poles.
The authority urged citizens to remain vigilant during the rainy period and to report emergencies to the PDMA helpline at 1129.
