Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL) the second-largest gas producer in Pakistan has pledged its commitment towards its framework, “Leave no one behind” which is a central, transformative promise of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
In this regard, a state-of-the-art education facility for children with disabilities established in Daharki is complimenting achieving Goal 4 of SDGs and aligned with the theme of this year’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities ‘United in action to rescue and achieve the SDGs for, with and by persons with disabilities.’
It represents the unequivocal commitment of all the UN Member States to eradicate poverty in all its forms, end discrimination and exclusion, and reduce the inequalities and vulnerabilities that leave people behind and undermine the potential of individuals and of humanity as a whole.
Initially, the Noor-E-Sehar Special Education School (NSSES) was established in 2018 by the MPCL in consultation with STEP (Special Talent Exchange Program) a globally acknowledged organization led by people with disabilities in Pakistan.
The school is operational as a flagship CSR initiative of MPCL and being managed by STEP educating 200 children with diversified disabilities from the MPCL field area, offering free, inclusive, and high-quality education. It boasts fully accessible infrastructure designed to accommodate the diverse needs of children with disabilities, supported by a highly qualified and knowledgeable faculty.
NSSES is equipped with contemporary rehabilitation facilities and remarkable ambiance has been operationalized such as physiotherapy lab fully equipped, and using Wonder Tree technology for the education and rehabilitation.
A team of around 40 specialized teachers, physiotherapists, speech therapists, braillist, sign language experts, nutritionists and dedicated supporting staff has been put together to ensure finest program implementation ensuring quality of service delivery.
In a ceremony to observe the International Day of Persons with Disabilities organized at NSSE Ms. HumaZafar CSR Lead of MPCL said we envision this facility as a model which can be replicated in other regions of the country by the Government and by the corporate sector. She further mentioned that this contribution of MPCL will transform the lives of children with disabilities in Daharki as they are being prepared for mainstreaming in society.
While addressing the event Regional Manager Sindh MPCL Mr. NaveedAslam advised parents of children with disabilities to be consistent for the education of their children taking privilege of this model education facility.
