Indian lower house of parliament, Lok Sabha, on Wednesday passed two bills aimed at diluting the Muslim majority representation in legislative assembly of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir and opening the door on outsiders for all small and big appointments in the territory.

The Lok Sabha passed the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, designed to increase three seats for non-Muslims in the name of Kashmiri migrant community and displaced persons.

Additionally, the House also passed the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, aiming “to redefine the category of individuals eligible for reservation in appointments and admissions”.

These bills received parliamentary endorsement following a nominal debate in the house. Indian Home Minister Amit Shah asserted that that reserving displaced individuals would afford them a meaningful representation in the legislature.

Amit Shah on the occasion criticzed India’s first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru for declaration of a ceasefire and subsequently bringing the Kashmir issue to the attention of the United Nations.

However, his assertion is an open admission to the fact that Jammu and Kashmir is an internationally recognized dispute.—KMS
