Indian authorities registered 371 cases under draconian law Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in 2022.

This was revealed by India’s National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) in its annual report.

The report said that 371 cases were registered in 2022 as compared to 289 cases in 2021.

It is to be mentioned here that the Narendra Modi-led fascist Indian government is using this anti-terror law to book the Kashmiri Hurriyat leaders, rights defenders, journalists, civil society members and even ordinary people to punish them for their affiliation with the ongoing freedom movement.

United Nations special rapporteurs have stated that the provisions of the UAPA contravene several articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. BBC News has reported that people arrested and charged with UAPA find it harder to get bail.—KMS
