Islamabad Chief Commissioner Capt (R) Anwar-ul-Haq on Tuesday directed to take stern action against price gougers and overcharging in public transport. The meeting was attended by senior officials from the district administration, including Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon, Addl. Commissioner, Director (Law), Addl. Deputy Commissioners, Director (Agriculture Extension Services Cell), Deputy Director (Food), Secretary (Islamabad Transport Authority) and Assistant Commissioners.
The deputy commissioner briefed the participants of the meeting about the steps taken to monitor transport fares.
He said the district administration revised the transport fares and also mobilised field teams to check overcharging in public transport. The chief commissioner directed to increase the number of field staff to check transport fares. On the issue of price control, he directed all assistant commissioners to take immediate steps to provide maximum relief to the people.
He underscored the need for prompt initiatives and directed all officers to swiftly implement measures aimed at providing maximum support and relief to the people. Moreover, emphasising the importance of field inspections, the chief commissioner urged officers to conduct surprise visits to monitor the situation and ensure compliance with regulatory measures that essential commodities and public transport remain accessible and affordable for all segments of society.
