Authorities in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir have beefed up so-called security in Srinagar and adjoning areas ahead of Indian president Draupadi Murmu’s visit to the territory.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the President of India, Droupadi Murmu will arrive in Kashmir on a two-day visit starting from today. On the same day, she will be the chief guest for the 20th annual convocation of the picturesque University of Kashmir (KU) in Srinagar’s Hazratbal area. Later, she will interact with members of local tribal groups and women of self-help groups at Raj Bhavan in Srinagar besides attending a civic reception to be hosted in her honour there. Next day, on October 12, the Indian President will visit Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Reasi district where she will inaugurate a remodelled Parvati Bhavan and skywalk.

Indian forces’ personnel including police and central armed police forces’ commandos and sharpshooters have laid siege around the campus of the University. All the four entries into the campus have been sealed by the Indian armed personnel whereas the so-called security in the adjoining residential areas too has been beefed up after fanning out the reinforcements of the police and Central armed police forces including the CRPF.

Earlier the residential houses in the neighbourhood of Naseem Bagh, Sadrabal and Kani Taar were searched by the columns of Indian troops as a so-called security drill. Media reports citing officials said that the latest technology and security gadgets, including CCTV cameras and drones, are being used. They said that area domination exercises are underway in the Srinagar city particularly in areas surrounding the University campus.

“A multi-tier security grid has been put in place ahead of the event while surprise checking of vehicles and pedestrians is being conducted in various parts of the city. Besides, technical and human support is also being used to ensure the incident-free event,” they added.—KMS
