Australia welcomes end of Indonesian cattle import ban

The Australian government has welcomed a decision by Indonesian authorities to lift import restrictions on live cattle and buffalo from the country.

Australia’s Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) said on Saturday that it has reached an agreement with the Indonesian Agriculture and Quarantine Agency (IAQA) to lift with immediate effect a ban on live exports from seven facilities across northern Australia.

The temporary ban was implemented in July and extended earlier in September after authorities in Indonesia detected lumpy skin disease (LSD) in live cattle imported from Australia.—Xinhua
