KANDY – India defeated Nepal by 10 wickets in the fifth Asia Cup match at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Kandy on Monday evening to join Pakistan in the super four stage.

Openers Rohit Sharma 74 and Shubman Gill 67 chased down the revised target of 145 runs without losing any wickets and with 17 balls to spare (DLS).

Nepal set a target of 231 runs which was later revised to 145 runs in 23 overs due to loss of time owing to rains.

Player of the match Rohit Sharma and his opening partner Shubman Gill crossed the line with around three overs to spare.

After being asked to bat first in overcast conditions with predictions of rains, Nepal made a solid start with 65 runs opening partnership.

After losing opening partner Kushal Bhurtal at 65, Aasif continued scoring at a steady pace.

But Nepal continued losing wickets with regular intervals on the other end.

After the departure of top scorer Aasif Sheikh at 132 and Gulshan Jha at 144, the lower middle order added valuable runs to take the team score to above 200 mar.

Nepal was all out on 230 runs in 48.2 overs, setting a target of 231 runs for India.

India is in second place with one point in the Group A table after their match against Pakistan ended in no result on September 2 due to rain. Pakistan stand at the top with three points.
