Sri Lanka’s sports minister Harin Fernando has asked the SLC to submit a proper replacement plan within 24 hours before he approves the special request to continue with the existing coaching staff.
Sri Lanka Cricket’s Executive Committee today made an appeal to the Minister of Telecommunication, Foreign Employment and Sports Honorable Harin Fernando to give time till the end of the New Zealand Series to carry out his ‘Directive’ to SLC; pertaining to the change of the ‘Coaching Staff’ of the National Team.
The appeal was made this afternoon, following a meeting the SLC Executive Committee had with the Honorable Minister. Speaking exclusively over telephone from Colombo, the minister said, “I have not yet decided (on giving a life-line to the coaching staff-read Chandika Hathurusingha).
“I have given them 24 hours to give me the proper replacement plan for me to approve it”. Selection meeting postponed
In the meantime, the selection committee meeting, which was to be held on Friday afternoon to deliberate on the team selection was postponed to Monday, it is learnt here.
The four selectors met in the morning and had a preliminary discussions for the selection of teams for practice game against visiting New Zealand, Test team against New Zealand and also the Emerging team for the Bangladesh tour.
Hon. secretary and the convener (Mohan De Silva) telephoned to each selector and informed him about the postponement of the meeting. It could not be confirmed whether this was due to the possible change in the selection panel.
