Customs authorities have foiled a bid to smuggle large amount of essential utilities such as sugar and flour along with fertilizers to neighboring countries.
According to the customs authorities, the customs field enforcement unit has seized hundreds of metric tons of essential utilities during several operations during the last three weeks.
The customs authorities Khuzdar confiscated 54 metric tons of flour, 70 metric tons of fertilizers along with 64 metric tons of sugar. The approximately 190 metric tons seized utilities are estimated to be worth Rs.80m.
Customs Hyderabad also seized 80 ton fertilizer and 60 ton sugar which were being smuggled to Baluchistan.
Customs have been conducting active operation against the smuggling of essential commodities from last three weeks after the Prime Minister Shahbaz Shareef ordered the departments to halt the ongoing smuggling.
To stop the smuggling of sugar, urea fertilizer, flour and other edible items the government has issued instructions to the Chairman FBR for the strictest measures.
Collector Enforcement Khuzdar Imran Sajjad Bukhari formed a team under the supervision of Additional Collector Enforcement Sajid Baloch and Deputy Collector Rana Umair.
The team took various actions in the last 20 days to stop the large quantity of sugar, urea fertilizer and flour that was being smuggled to neighboring countries.INP
