The Lahore High Court will hear a contempt petition against the Chief Election Commissioner and other ECP members for postponing the election to Punjab Assembly earlier scheduled to be held on April 30.
LHC judge Justice Jawad Hassan will hear advocate Muhammad Shahid Rana’s contempt petition against the CEC and other members on April 3 (Monday).
The petition states that the LHC had ordered to conduct elections in Punjab within 90 days and the Election Commission of Pakistan announced to hold the polls on April 30. But later, the ECP changed the poll date despite court’s order.
The petition further states that the ECP changed the poll date at the behest of PDM. By changing the Punjab election date, the ECP has violated the court order which is tantamount to contempt of court, it added.
The petitioner requested the court to initiate contempt proceedings against the CEC and other members of the ECP.
