Imad Wasim’s heroics go in vain as Islamabad United outshines Karachi Kings in PSL8 thriller

RAWALPINDI – Despite a brilliant 92-run knock from skipper Imad Wasim, lady luck deserted Karachi Kings in the 19th match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season eight.

Islamabad United managed to clinch today’s game against Karachi Kings by six wickets after a thrilling encounter in the garrison city of Rawalpindi. Beleaguered Kings are eyeing to get the third spot in the points table after gaining momentum against Islamabad United fell short.

Chasing a big target of 202 runs, United’s powerhouse Azam Khan was on a run riot as he scored 72 off 41 deliveries, completing the target in 19.2 overs.

Shadab-led side initially faced blow as Colin Munro returned after scoring mere 11 runs, in the first over.  Rassie van der Dussen and Alex Hales stitched half a ton in 30 balls for the second wicket.

After their departure, Azam Khan and Faheem Ashraf continue the charge and slammed 124 runs in 69 balls, helping their side to win the 19th fixture. Power hitter Asif Ali hit a maximum, followed by a boundary, to finish off in style.

In the first half of the game, Kings captain Imad Wasim remained unbeaten on 92 runs, missing his century by 8 runs. The team lost three wickets within the powerplay. Sharjeel Khan, Tayyab Tahir, and Adam Rossington all returned to the pavilion before creating an impressive show.

Seasoned player Shoaib Malik was caught by Faheem Ashraf. Later, the in-form skipper continued the charge with Irfan Khan. For team United, Tom Curran claimed two wickets.

Earlier, Karachi Kings decided to bat first against Islamabad United in the 19th match of Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 8 at Rawalpindi cricket stadium on Friday.

Imad Wasim led Kings appeared in seven fixtures in this year’s Twenty20 league so far, and are hovering at the fifth spot with two wins.
